EU : further sanctions on Iran.

It's not surprising Iran is confused: don't have nukes say the EU, nukes are good, says the leader of one of the EU's leading members.

The EU made "an offer" to Tehran earlier this month that various incentives would be made available if Iran abandoned its nuclear ambitions. The subtext is simple: Arab nations cannot be trusted with nuclear devices not to turn them into weapons, and the knowledge that Israel has nuclear weapons is a point that cannot be included in the discussions.

The Iranians said that there were elements of the "offer" that worked for them but wanted some additional benefits and did not want some of the constraints. The EU demonstrated that its "offer" was in reality a threat and as a result decided on 23 June to impose new sanctions targeting businesses and individuals said to be linked to the nuclear and ballistics research in Iran.

The first actions were to freeze Bank Melli's assets and visa bans were imposed on those known to be senior in the nuclear and ballistics fields.
