UK: Huge police operations nets 14

In the North East of England, 200 policemen have raided almost two dozen premises and arrested 14 people on allegations of a range of fraud offences and money laundering.

The raids covered premises over several hundred square miles and across several counties: Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, Tynemouth, Holywell, North Shields, Forest Hall, Newcastle and Guisborough.

The raids came from a tip-off from someone who realised that a neighbour was living well beyond their apparent means. A spokesman for one of the police forces involved said ""If someone is suspicious about a person's lifestyle and where they are getting their money from, all they need to do is tip us off and we will do the rest. They don't need to give their name, or give evidence in court."

Cars, including an Aston Martin and a Range Rover were seized along with a number of false passports.
